4 Things To Remember When Moving And Relocating

In the tumult of moving and relocating, it's easy to overlook tasks that need to be done. Unfortunately, when you forget to do things during a move, it can cause a major headache later. Below, you'll find 4 things that are easy to forget that you should make certain you remember to do.

#1 - Keep Your Records Handy

Keep all of your important documents in one place. That includes your child's school records, medical and dental records, your pet's veterinarian records and anything else that you may need to access quickly. Often during a move, people pack these items away, losing them in the dozens of boxes that litter their new home. Keep them handy.

#2 - What's Your Address

When you move to a new home, it usually takes awhile to memorize your new address. Write it down and keep it in your wallet for easy reference. Whether you need it to forward mail at your local post office or change your mailing address for magazine subscriptions, having it in your wallet keeps it readily accessible and saves time.

#3 - Collect The Keys

You may have given keys to your old home to neighbors, family members, or friends for emergencies. Before moving to your new place, make sure to collect these old keys. If you wish, you can make copies of your new keys and ask everyone to replace them.

#4 - Odds And Ends

You may have rented DVDs, borrowed library books, or taken clothes to the cleaners. Make a list of these things and plan on returning them (or picking them up, in the case of the cleaners) before your moving day.

Forgetting to do important things before you move to your new home is natural. There's a lot to keep track of and things can easily slip through the cracks. But, with a little planning upfront, moving and relocating doesn't have to mean forgetting the details. Follow the 4 tips above to ensure that you don't forget to do the small, but important tasks.
